Jean from Alexandria, VA

July 2010

I have mild Cerebral Palsy, affecting one side of my body. I have tried alternative therapies. If fact, my acupuncturist suggested I try Feldenkrais. Like everyone as I age, and now I am in my early fifties, my muscles are not as supple as they once were. The aches and pains are creeping up. Balance has always been difficult for me as well as walking stairs. Feldenkrais offers exercises that release tension in the muscles so they are not as rigid. Feldenkrais makes your mind re-think movement which in the end helps my daily life.

Paul Doron Doroftei is a man in his fifites who has lived with cerebral palsy since birth. He describes himself as a man who is both "infirm" and healthy.

Born in Romania, Paul emigrated in 1970 as a teenager with his family to Israel. In 1972 he had his first session with Moshe Feldenkrais at Feldenkrais' office in Tel Aviv. That first lesson was full of discovery and so was each lesson, generally weekly, for the next 10 years.

In a detailed biography titled "My Story as a Cerebral Palsy Victim", Paul shares with us the discoveries and frustrations of his childhood years and then the magical encounter and 10-year relationship with  Moshe Feldenkrais. There is teaching, inspiration and hope in this account for everyone.

In this four-minute video a Girl with CP, about ten, learns in her first Feldenkrais lesson how to roll over by herself. Now her mother can sleep through the whole night.

When Grace first came to see Anat she was three years old and had severe CP. According to her mother, Grace was "a little bit like concrete." She had just been evaluated as being at a 3-month old developmental level. Over two years with Anat and associates, Grace developed into -- her mother's words again -- a supple, fluid, funky, vivacious, confident little girl.

Ken Brooks is a lawyer who is on his feet a lot. He also has mild cerebral palsy that affects his right Achilles tendons. Walking was becoming more difficult. Physicians wanted him to wear a permanent walking brace. Instead he turned to Feldenkrais and got a lot of benefit.

Jennifer Liight-Krasnow is a doula and puppy raiser. She has cerebral palsy that affects her right foot. After going through physical therapy that she found painful, tiring and not helpful, she turned to Feldenkrais and found a better answer.
